There are many options for leisure when the weekend rolls around, and more and more adventure experiences are popping up to compete for your time. If you are a thrill seeker or just want to experience something out of the ordinary, how do you choose? Free fall adventures are a fun new option, and the FlightLine Free Fall device offers a one-of-a-kind controlled free fall jump that will get your adrenaline pumping. But can it compare to the thrill of skydiving? See what adventure filmmaker Kyle Berkompas had to say about his FlightLine jump compared to skydiving.
What makes the free fall drop experience of FlightLine comparable to something as extreme as skydiving?
Accessible Adventure
For such an adrenaline inducing thrill, FlightLine is very accessible. There is no need for a plane or intensive training before you take the leap. FlightLine can be mounted anywhere from 60 feet (18.5 m) to 80 feet (24.5 m) above the ground, so it can be used anywhere there is a platform of that height. Participants should be instructed in proper rider procedure but are ready to go after these brief instructions. The cost of a jump with FlightLine is also much less than skydiving, making this free fall adventure more accessible to people who can't afford jumping from planes.
Too Close for Comfort
Though not as high of a jump as skydiving, FlightLine will still make your palms sweat and your heart pound. Interestingly, many jumpers report that being closer to the ground makes the experience scarier, possibly because your brain can actually register the danger of jumping from a platform when the ground appears inescapably close. When preparing to leap from a plane, the ground is so far away that the danger may seem less immediate or less real in comparison.
You Take the Leap
Many thrill rides or free fall adventures start with the push of a button or the pull of a level, but the jumper is in the driver's seat with FlightLine. Once you're secured and ready, it's up to you to take that step off the platform and into thin air. No one else is going to hit for you! Many people don't expect the fear to grip them in that moment but find themselves hesitating to take the leap. Once you commit and step off, the reward is a free fall drop experience unlike any other.
Soft Catch
The highlight of the FlightLine is the free fall drop, but one of the most impressive parts is how soft the catch afterwards is. Other free fall adventures, like bungee jumping, have notoriously jarring catches, but FlightLine uses staged braking to slow the jumper. This makes FlightLine one of the most thrilling free falls but also a very comfortable, controlled free fall jump.
